Hi friend, We’re just over a week away from the new year, and our team is gearing up for 2026 with a big (but 100 percent clear-eyed and achievable) idea on our virtual vision board: Homegrown Energy.

Energy bills are out of control and keep getting worse. Gas and electric bills are spiking around the country for all kinds of reasons, including that the costs of maintaining old gas pipelines — while maintaining our electrical grid — is an unnecessary and inefficient doubling up of expenses. (More on that here). This does not need to be our reality. We can flip the switch on this energy story.

It’s all in the name. Homegrown Energy is the idea that households can be more than energy consumers, they can be energy producers. From the solar panels soaking up the sun down to the EV charging in the garage, a fully electrified house literally brings power back home.
As more houses electrify, our national energy infrastructure also gets stronger. We’re building up our energy muscle with each electric appliance installation. This is good news because we’re going to need all of that strength to carry our increasing national energy demand.

Zooming in on one corner of our vision board, the names John Semmelhack and Neil Comparetto come into focus. John and Neil are co-owners of The Comfort Squad, a Virginia-based contractor group committed to all-electric appliance installations. In the fall of 2025, we partnered with them to launch a heat pump installation program in their community.
With the help of their special discounts and our easy sign-up process, we sold through all program packages in just under eight weeks!
The Comfort Squad is one of many contractors across the country doing the work. Multiply the work in a single household by all 130 million households across the country, and American homegrown energy can become the new reality.

There is still a lot of rewiring to be done. We need more policies to support home electrification upgrades, more trained contractors, and more resources for community organizations already on the ground. But this energy story is based on fact, not fiction. Let’s write it together.
